I had this really cute and witty opening to today’s blog explaining about the week and what I was going to talk about in this blog until I got a call from my father-in-law in the midst of my writing that was worth scraping what I had to insert here…
Our Gin was sent to the Seattle Spirits Competition a few months back and we got our results….Our results were not bronze, not silver, not even gold….BUT DOUBLE GOLD! Double freaking Gold!!!! Did you get that? DOUBLE GOLD!
*Ring Ring*
Me: Hello?
Dave: Hey, so I just sent you an email and we got Double Gold on our Gin.
Me: What for real? From where?
Dave: Yep, from Seattle Spirits Competition
Me: NO SHIT, THAT’S HUGE
Dave: Yep
I swear sometimes I live in a dream. Wiggly Bridge Distillery in York, Maine makes spirits to be reckoned with.
If it wasn’t only 12pm I’d pour myself a Wiggly Gin and Tonic and sip on some DOUBLE GOLD spirit. HAHA
Anyway, if I can get my mind focused, I want to get back to what I wanted to share! To start off this week right, I am going to dub it Mule Monday because I have been sent some really neat and unique copper cups that I wanted to try out and write about! PLUS you can’t have a copper mug and not have a mule in it AND it’s Monday. Take a look at my stunningly dorky selfie reflection in this beautiful cup.
This is called The Roly Cup from The Copper Mug Company. It is a uniquely shaped copper cup that is dainty yet has the perfect weight to fit comfortably in your hand.
We use this company with our regular copper cups at the distillery. I’ve scoured the internet finding which copper mug company would be best. After being in contact with so many companies, we’ve been really happy with The Copper Mug Company. The main reason being is that they stand by their product and their mugs are pure solid copper, food safe naturally, and coated on the outside with a food safe lacquer.
Quality is huge for us. I had cups that were copper plated with stainless steel on the inside. Or copper plated with painted (copper) stainless steel. These were much cheaper alternatives, but the product didn’t hold up to Wiggly Bridge Distillery’s standards.
Here are some fun facts about using copper as a drinking vessel (I promise I’ll keep it concise and short)
Copper, in general, can hold the temperature of its contents much longer than a regular glass, or mug. So your drinks stay colder or warmer longer!
There are some health benefits to drinking in a mug or cup that is made out of copper. Copper has anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties!
We use copper for our stills. Copper is a great conductor of heat and disperses the heat evenly across the entire surface of the metal creating more even distillation!
I had also read that it also removes sulfur compounds and is a relatively easy metal to work with….I’ll defer any more deep nuggets of information to Dave and David if you want more!
