It wouldn’t be a New England sports team without keeping fans at the edge of our seats, blood pressure sky high, waiting for the moment to jump up and cheer in excitement. Super Bowl LI was no exception and it was absolutely incredible that the New England Patriots came out on top!
In a world where cocktail trends come and go as do sports teams, we have come across a cocktail and like the Patriots, have survived the test of time. It is a famous pre-prohibition cocktail and in the wake of last night’s Super Bowl, how fitting that it originated in Boston.
It is in the whiskey sour family and is best made with a high rye bourbon. Made up of 37% Rye, Wiggly Bridge Distillery’s Small Barrel Bourbon is just the fit for this cocktail.
Sours are typically served in a rocks glass, but Ward 8 tends to be served in a stemmed glass. After Tom Brady’s 4th quarter performance we are going to roll with it – stems up!
**Like we insist upon in everything we do, it really makes a difference to use fresh ingredients and to make what ever you can yourself. Grenadine is one of those ingredients you can make. Here’s how:
Grenadine
- 1 cup fresh pomegranate juice (approximately two large pomegranates) or POM Wonderful 100%
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp Orange Blossom Water (Substitute with fresh lemon juice if not available)
- 1 1/2 cups water
Heat Pomegranate, Sugar, and water in a saucepan until boiling, then turn the heat down and let the mixture simmer gently for about 5-15 minutes. Let mixture cool, then pour into a sealed container. Add orange flower water and store in fridge.
